Okay, I've been having trouble locating the dristributor release bolt on my 258 so i can adjust the timing. I spoke to my local chrystler service manager who told me something that i just thought i'd have to sanity check here before i really looked into it.

Apparently SOME of the older engines distributors were not adjustable at all...
Is this true? If so, how would you set the timing?[addsig]

Nah, their full of it, if you ask me. There is a 1/2 inch bolt that goes into the block that holds down the distributor at the flange. It's right under your vacuum advance diaphram. I got rid of my pick up type distributor and swapped in a points type. It was out of a 1973 Matador, what ever that is, I'm sure it was ugly as sin. It's under the topic "Ultimate reliability out of your 258". It only cost me around $40 for all new parts, distributor, cap and rotor. Just hook up the wire out of the distributor to the ground side of the coil, tach side, and set the points to about 10 thousanths or so, I forget but it's correct on my old post. Feel around at the base of the distributor at the block, it'll be on the right of the base, good luck![addsig]
