onboard air

I'm going to drill and tap my pipe bumper for fittings and a gauge then use it as a tank. Prob keep a coiled hose in the jeep. I would like to have an onboard set-up under the hood driven off the engine.

I've heard somewhere of a bumper being done, but didn't think it was really a do-able thing. Do bumpers have no escape points for the air; are they air-tight? Do you have to seal them somehow? How many gal would it hold? It would be pretty cool if it works effectively.

Hey there,
I have an ARB air lockers & single compressor which is great
although a little slow on my 09 Jk; it works well for airing up
& a valve stem release deflator is also a must.
ARB have a new high speed twin compressor option in both on board & portable versions...
New Rubicon on the way; anyone wanna buy an unused brand new
RHD Stage2 v3 Ripp supercharger kit. I didnt get around to installing it,
& 100extra HP for the 2008-2010 JK is a great upgrade to consider.
Don't buy the ARB lift kits, they need to work out some serious problems
before I'd ever buy a kit from then again.:(
FYI.

If you can elder any tube bumper can be an airtank. Just plug the holes and weld it. Add a coupler and your done.

I'm sure the one I posted above is slow but that is the reason for the extra tank. I just don't want to buy one that is gonna burn out the first time I use it.

I may get lucky and it not leak, if it does I'll just grind the weld out and go over it. I've got a boiler cetification. I'll prob keep it under 80psi anyway. There's a formula for figuring it but it escapes me at the moment. Between the front and rear I should be able to bring mine back up after airing down for mudding or bring one completley flat tire back up.

Gauge is already attached to the tank as is. Just need to remove the old compressor and motor.
I guess I misunderstood your post. I thought you were talking about making an air tank from a pipe bumper and saying all you needed was to plug the holes and add the couplings.

Dustin, first look at the specs for any compressor. That was the main driving force when I bought mine. Many say they offer this high PSI or volume. The main thing to consider also id Duty rate, this is the amount of time the compressor can stay running before it over heats...most that are not designed to run continuously only have a 15 minute duty rating....thats 15 minutes per hour. I am running a ViAir 450C, the C stands for contentious, and in the valley here, heat build up is a problem I know that they make several sizes that portable and hook up to your battery.

I looked up that viair 450c and it looks like a great setup. Portability isn't a driving issue. Price however is. That 450c is around $220. Not too pricey at all.

Looks good I like the idea of a permanently mounted compressor anyway that way its always with you even when you will never think you will need it.

I won a compressor in a raffle that clamps to your battery. Does a good job. 33" tire is full after couple mins. Will do all four tires and is pretty damn hot by the end. If I let a neighbor air up his tires, too, it will shut of from heat after the first tire or two. But hey, it was free. Lol

Free is always better than sale price.
Since mine also powers my lockers I went what was on sale and bought the 450C, it was like 25$ more than the 350C at the time. For airing up tires is slow, compared to my partners jeep who has a York A/C compressor set up as a air pump.

Do you have a seperate tank or just the pump?
