Pa. Ride against door law

I am in the process of trying to put together a ride against this law involving no doors in Pa. It is pretty much at the officers discretion if they want to fine someone for it but it is however ridiculous. It is going to be similar to the one that motorcyclists did for the helmet law and would hold it at the state capitol in Harrisburg. I am looking for other jeep owners in Pa who are interested in trying to make this change with me, and am open for ideas on this. I am also open for a get together somewhere where everyone interested can all ban together to help plan it. I am located in New Cumberland Pa. you can also e-mail me at jsheaston@gmail.com thanks and look forward to hearing from all of you

Could you find the section of the PA or federal Law that states doors are necessary? I ask cause there are many delivery type vehicles driving around with doors wide open. So it's not just Jeeps.

yeah i'll post what i read at some point tonight or tommorow I have to find it, A cop I talked to that ironically owned my Jeep before i did said, they usually only bust you if your doing something else, some enforce it more.....what I read in the actual DMV law states nothing about "doors"

Only PA state law I have found about doors is that you have to have one reflective type device to see behind you.So if you have a review mirror you are legal. If I was to ever get pulled over for it first I would ask what law it breaks. Then would politely sign the ticket and make the phone call for my day in court.

I looked through PA and Federal Motor Vehical Safety Standards. All I see are references to door components and not the need for doors themselves. Some of the references I wonder is there are special provisions as soft doors wouldn't pass the stated laws. Plus If I recall there are warnings on doors and softtops that they are not designed as such.
You might ask your friend or the PO about the exact law. Not to be a smart *** but most don't want to be breaking the law. This topic will be searched again and it would be nice to have the correct info in this post.

Back to your origional request. I'd support a ride if I still lived there. Ride with a cause...8)

I agree with you XT on your reply, when I get home I will post what I have, but I have been at a stop light right beside an officer and if there is even such a law they certainly don't do there jobs by enforcing it....I'm not complaining either and I am knocking on wood as I speak. I do lnow people get popped, and in the city of York they will get you hands down, they did last year during the York Jeep Show all over the place. Keep watching for more info on this from me, as well as the ride I am planning

I rarely have the doors on in the summer unless we are on a long trip and my wife asks, but we rarely have them on, sideways down pour with high winds I usually have the top on and doors other than that, tore out the carpet bed lined it, opened the drain holes and seats are water proofed

the only Pa law I'm aware of has to do with rear view mirrors...if the center one view is blocked, then you have to have side mirrors a la truck. lack of compliant mirrors can get you a legit ticket.

all the old soft top CJs were doorless.

I suspect your cop may be prouder of that badge and "command presence" than actual knowledge of the law. That happens.

the silly Pa. law is if wipers are on, headlights must be as well... that way they can write violations instead of catching criminals.

Doors come off of CJ,YJ,TJ and Jk's maybe they are looking for the XJ guys who are removing the doors on them? XJ's came with doors.
