i have a 1996 jeep grand cherokee laredo that has been having continual problems for about a year now. 1 year ago it started stalling and backfiring. i took it to a shop and it was determined that the ecu was bad, so we replaced it with a refurb. it ran great for about 3 or 4 months then it started doing it again so i started trouble shooting. i replaced the fuel filter, the plugs and wires, got a new battery, replaced the alternator, new cap and rotor, and still it was doing the same thing, it would bog down to very low rpms with no power then it would either kick back in and be fine or it would backfire or it would just die as if the engine was flooded because it would not start right back up. blue smoke would come out from under the hood when this would happen and the check engine light would come on. so i replaced the ecu a second time this time with a brand new unit and once again it worked for about 6 months and just about a month ago it started doing the same thing. it is very hit and miss too. some days we have no problems at all and other days it does it constantly. does anyone have anything that can help me, it is my only vehicle to get to work with and get my daughter to school i am screwed without it.
