pulling transmission

I'm pulling the transmission on a 93 grand cherokee 4.0. I was thinking I could pull the transmission without removing the exhaust. Now I can't see how I can remove the dip stick bolt without getting the pipe out of there. Any advice on removing the top bell housing bolts. Thanks for any help.

After supporting the rear of the transmission with a stable floor jack, remove the transmission cross member and mount. Lower the rear of the transmission enough to get a long extension and socket to remove the bolts on the top of the bell housing. NOTE: You will have fluid coming out of the tailshaft of the transmission when it's tilted down.
