putting a 4.3 in a cj7

my buddy has a 81 cj7 with a 4 cylinder and he has a early 90s 4.3 v6 chevy motor he wants to put in it. will the transmission bolt up? anybody got any tips?

The 81 4cyl was a Pontiac 151cu(Iron Duke). The bell housing was GM. I think it will bolt to a Chevy V6.

no the bell housing is to small for the 4.3 and mounting bolts will not line up you can get a 4.3 bell-housing and either redrill mounting location for trans or just get the adapter

The Iron Duke 4 cyl in the Cj's use a 90 deg bellhousing the same as the 4.3. The later 4 cyl engines in XJ and YJ are a 60 deg bellhousing and it matches up to the 2.8/3.4 V6's.
Yes it will bolt up as long as it is a Iron DUke engine! Is the intake on one side and the exhaust on the other? if so it is a Iron Duke GM 4 cyl.
You will need to keep the Iron Duke flywheel and starter! these will bolt up to the 4.3 V6. I have done these swaps!

hell yea thanks yall. i had heard they would bolt up but wasnt sure. sounds like it wont be too bad a swap.
