Rim Reconditioning

My alloy rims are looking a little tired. All the years up north has pitted them something good. Does anyone have a good way to recondition these guys or recommendations for new wheels. (no 20" bling bling stuff)

Acetone to remove the clearcoat and a rattle can of good black wheel paint.

I was thinking more like a good way to remove the pitting...I am guessing I could lightly sand most of it off. I dont want to mess up the balance of the wheel though.

You'll have to strip the clearcoat off with something (I'd use acetone), then polish out the pitting and re-clearcoat. Don't worry about balance, your tires will be more out than you could make the wheel and that is all going to be balanced anyhow.

If you like the wheels then restore them instead of wasting $$$ on new ones.

The design of the wheels are fine with me. I just want to get rid of the pitting. How would you recommend polishing out the pitting?

IF the pitting is severe, I doubt you or me could fix it at home with anything we might be able to buy, like say a drill mounted polisher. If you like the stock alloy look, check around with the guys at 4Wheel Parts or another 4X4 shop where people are leaving take-offs when they upgrade. And I know I shouldn't say this but I will anyway, try Ebay, if you catch the right deal you can get a set of factory wheels for less than the time/effort it takes to restore yours.

How bad is the pitting?

And a picture is worth several billion words!
