Roll cage question??

OK... I am getting a 4 point YJ cage for my cj7. 2 questions I need answered. 1) Is putting in sandwitch plates good ebnought for the cage attaching to the front floor board or do I need to tie it into the frame? I do not do much serious off roading or climbing. It is mostly a safety issue for my two boys who sit in the back on my cj. I am getting a smoking deal on a full cage! and question 2) will rear 3 point shoulder belts from a yj work in a cj? If so, are there modifications that need to be done to get the 3 point belts in the back? Iknow that was 3 questions.

In answer to your first question I used the sandwich plates you mention but I have plans at some point to tie them into the frame. Initial survey seems that it'll take some creative bending to get around the rear tires.
With regard to the shoulder belts the worst that comes to mind is you'd have to drill through the main bar and run a bolt through it to secure the upper section of the belt. I'm using just the lab belt portion of a 5 pt. harness until I get serious on rock climb and other, The Corbeau seats I got a couple of years ago accomodate these 5 pt harnesses, which may be another option for you, if so equipped.
All the best.

I'd tie it into the frame. The floor is just sheet metal and it can punch through in a hard roll.

When you tie to the frame, make sure you either do the body lift first or remember that you'll need to modify your cage later if you lift the body. It is not hard to do, but things take a bit more space.

I installed the RockHard kit, and it is pretty slick. But the frame tie in will have to be modified when (if) I go with a body lift.

I think he meant rather than just bolting to the body pan he used a plate of metal to back the pads of the cage, but I agree tieing into the frame strengthens the whole assembly.

Ideally you should tie it to the frame, but the stock cage is not tied to the frame at all. at a minimum I like to tie in the front most point and the rear most point.

As for the rear seat belts, the three point harness will work (assuming your getting the stock YJ ones with the cage), depending on your CJ, since some simply do not have factory rear seat belts, you might need to find the female latch end. not hard, I suggest finding a set in a junk yard latches from a YJ, then just locate the center of the tub under the back of the seat and drill a hole (might be a factory hole there, if so just bolt the seat belt latches down) if not, get a grade 8 bolt, nylon locking nut and 2 large fender washers and bolt them down and be save and done.
