Running lights work intermittantly

The front yellow running lights (the two way blinker bulb/running light bulb) come on and off intermittantly. Both the right and left side behave the same way. The blinker works fine at all times. When i get out of the car and tap on the housing the bulb usually comes back on. Has anybody else had this problem. I am assuming it is in the wiring somewhere, but i could not pinpoint anything when i had the housings off.

Yes i have had the exact same problem before on my 1988 cherokee :roll:.

What happens is the light bulb sockets become corroded and/or the grounding prong (one that runs up the socket) will break off. Try cleaning the contacts with cleaner and a screwdriver. If that doesn't work you'll have to replace the sockets OR do what I did:

Unscrew the light bulbs,
strip the end of a piece of like 18 AWG wire,
stick the wire in just a little down the side of the socket,
insert the bulb, wedging the wire between the bulb and socket wall,
ground the other end of the wire.

The above will take care of any problems caused by a bad ground prong.

Also, if both lights flicker when just tapping on one, first check the connections that are in the wireing harness just behind the left front running light.
