im well aware of the stigma surrounding the shackle lift, but im considering one anyway. im not looking for alot of altitude, (which i know is not a good idea w/ shackles) but just maybe an 1.5" or so, to clear 31"s. Can anyone who has a shackle lift tell me anything i should know?[addsig]

Be sure to let me know if you go with the shackle lift. I was all set to go with a 1" shackle lift and read so much about the pitfalls that I just scrached th idea. I saw some reall great looking shackles that are very heavy made on ebay not to long ago. They are out of Texas and impressed me. They come in several sizes and they say they are actual lift sizes. Looking forward to what you think! Tug[addsig]

Remember that to get 1.5" of lift, you will need a shackle 3" longer than stock. That greatly decreases your approach and departure angles. It's a more than a little bone-jarring when your shackles hit a ledge that your Jeep used to be able to climb.

Shackles increase wear on your springs, making them lose arch quicker. They will also decrease caster, which will make the Jeep steering wander more. I don't recommend them unless they supplement lift springs or AAL's.[addsig]

Bounty Hunter is correct concerning shackle suspension stress. I had shackles (lift) on mine as a temporary solution to tire rub. They served a dual purpose however. They supplied sufficient space for the 31" tires. They also dug into the side of a ditch, it turn bending my front leaf springs, expediting the inevitable...the lift I had in mind from the start. They make steering a little twitchier...change tire wear...and mess up the springs...even if you don't hit the sides of ditches. But they did suffice to fill the gap between rubbing and the actuall lift. If the lift is within a year...go for it...it's not much of an investment.[addsig]
