Should i pull the skid plate to replace the transmission gasket on a 87 yj T999?

Yes, I'm no expert but I have to do this also. Put a jack stand up to support the front of the trans and put one up to support your transfer case. There then should be one in the front of your skid and one in the back. If you just unbolt your skid your gonna have a transmission in ur lap. OUCH!!! Good luck. If you have not gotten the gasket yet, I would recommend a "lube locker" gasket. Part number LLT-A999/32

Check with your local Jeep dealer, for 40$ or so they make a deep transmission pan that comes with new filter and extended pick up along with a new transmission gasket. If your there might as well do a little upgrading.

It was a deal from the dealer and you get another quart of oil in the transmission.
