If you are in the field or just like me dont want to spend the money on a new tank here is a geat ez fix. My tank was leaking a bit so we pulled the shield and tank down to get a peak at the damage. There was very little rust and the tank was not dented or banged up. We found the leak as it was spraying from a tiny pin hole. We wire brushed the area with a brass brush to avoid any spark then took a 1/4" broad head sheet metal screw and made a thin inter tube rubber washer for the screw. pin pointed the hole and gingerly screwed into place just tight enought to bond. wiped it down, looked for a new wet spot and then tightened it a bit more and the leak was history. give it a miniut to dry and dabed it with a little two part epoxy. Now lets just see how it holds up. I feel I don't add much to what I get from the board so I hope that this helps some one some time. Tug[addsig]

Been there done that! Was on Rubicon, 2000' Parked at Spyder lake for the weekend. Got up Saturday morning to the wonderous odor-disure de gasoline! I had a very tiny pinhole leak that had produced a small 6" dia wet spot on the granite just outside my tent. Fortunatly not a lot of gas was lost. The fix I used was a 2-part epoxy mix "gas tank repair" (2 seperate colored putty's.) I gained access to the leak by dropping my skid plate, then the leak got worse! I had to have a friend mix up the epoxy putty, as I was plugging the leak with one hand!
This epoxy putty stated it could be applied over a wet leak, so I gave it the test. Sure enough, the nickle sized patch adhered to the tank and sealed the tiny hole just fine.
I let the jeep set all day, (fished ,drank, told lies to make up the day) the next day the patch was rock hard, and wasn't going anywhere!
Got home and replaced the whole tank as it was beat to haties from many rock trails anyhow. New tank is armored much better now. I kind beefed up the stock skid plate a little. :-D
I like that screw idea though. Could also work in a pinch. Also, another quick fix I've read somewhere, is bar soap. (I've never tried bar soap, so good luck with that one)

Yeah... but I would think that this fix is a last resort for if you've already used your duct tape as a tow rope[addsig]

The bar of soap does work as a temporary fix...our Hazmat team uses it for some spills in the field....I wouldn't leave it like that for any extended period of time though!! [addsig]

Isn't your fuel tank plastic? The one on my 93 YJ is plastic. I've never really pulled it out and taken a good look at it but if I look in through the sides of the skidplate, it's plastic. Is this a difference between Canadian and American jeeps?[addsig]
