SOA w/o SYE or AntiWrap Device?

Okay, the time is drawing near to do my SOA, the only thing that is holding me back is not knowing if I actually NEED a SYE or an Anti Wrap Device Is it possible to pull off without these two items? Has anyone done this without this stuff? I have no problem making the Anti Wrap Bambar, I can do that at work... But the SYE will cost some extra cash... So any help from veteran SOA Jeep drivers would be great! Thanks.[addsig]

You will need to do the SYE and CV rear shaft with the SOA conversion, no way around it.

The traction bar depends on which engine you have and what springs you are using. I have the 4banger and have added an extra leaf to each spring pack, so I don't think my low torque engine can cause that much wrap in the HD springs. If you have the 6cyl. and stock springs you'll likely experience a lot more spring wrap and will have to address it.[addsig]

BigBlackJeep and I successfully converted to SOA with the stock driveshaft. Tcase was lowered 1.5 inches and the pinion was pointed upward... NEVER has he had a problem, driven thousands of miles since, hundreds off road... no problems with it....

Even though he had no problems on his jeep without the sye... When I go SOA, I will not go without it. I am a "do it right or do it not" type man. My SYE will cost me $60[addsig]

I do drive the 4.0... so I will proably need a antiwrap bar... That can go in after the lift is done though... Snitty, does BigBlackJeep have an antiwrap bar? Can you use the SYE with a stock axle? Where did you get an SYE so cheap? I too like to do things the right way but I was unsure about the sye... If I can get one cheap then I will def. put it in. I would like to do this myself but does anyone know if mechanics do this type of stuff? My guess is no... just curious... thanks[addsig]

Just thinking out loud. I was starter at the local mud races for a decade. Watched alot of axles wrap and unwrap. Don´t hear much about kicker shocks much anymore, but they do work well and don´t really mess with articulation much.
Most of the broken u-joints and dropped driveshafts I´ve seen don´t come from wraping the axle up, they happen when it unwraps. Like your getting some traction the axle wraps up, then you loose traction and the pinion is pointing down, BANG.[addsig]

I too will be installing a SYE for under $100 when I do my SOA. A 1.5" TC drop is not real practical, and I didn't recommend it because it's not common or correct. IMO it increases the angle of the TC front output, so you're creating more problems than you're solving.[addsig]

i also agree with that... i am shocked that his stock shaft did handle it. he was looking for a cv to place in there.. but was called to war.... and no.. he has no anti wrap bar

as for me... my sye is cheap due to this reason.... I am getting my output yoke and shaft machined to mate together with a bolt... that solves that slip yoke problem... and as for the shaft... I have a cv shaft that came along with my transmission i bought, it came with a cherokee cv shaft along with a number of extra parts, many of which i will never use... I can also buy a used shaft for $10... I am soon going to take it to get shortened and balanced this coming week, i hope, to fit it in there.
