I have a 92 Jeep Wrangler that has been swapped from a 4cyl to a 6cyl, out of a cherokee. It has the bigger transmission as well. I so far have replaced the VSS, instrument cluster, and adjusted the speedo gear to every different setting available on the T-case with still no luck on getting the speedometer working. Every chart I look at says it should have a cable but it doesn't. for the setup it says I should have a short shaft 33 tooth gear set at 2628. I opened it and I have a 33 tooth long shaft gear. It does not look like the short shaft gear will be long enough but that is what the app. says Im supposed to use. Can anyone please direct me to the next step???? Im lost!

your trans or you cluster is set up for an electric speedometer? you have no cable or no spot for a cable on either end?

It has no spot for a cable. the cluster is just a plug in behind the tach. The speed sensor on the t-case has what looks like a piece coming off of it that maybe a cable could go on but no where to hook it up to on the speedo itself anyway. Not sure if the old owner swapped everything and it needs a cable to work now or what? Just really confused and sick of throwing money at it to try and fix it.

Assuming the previous owner didn't mess with the gauges.... You need a cable.....
The difference between my 89 speedo cable and the 92 speedo cable is the connector ends and how it sends the info to the gauge (mine is "mechanical" yours is "electric".... ) I swapped back halves of the NP231 with a 94 yj... We had to keep our own cables so we swapped connection /sensors at the T-case...

Where does the cable go?? I have no spot for it on my cluster.??? Please explain. thanks

The electric ones don't have a cable. They have a plug in harness. If the one on your t-case needs a cable you'll need to find a junk yard and get the electric type.

if your trans has a cable and your gauges doesn;t then just a gauge cluster that has teh cable connection on the back off ebay or something. you can get the ones that have all the gauges instead of just the gas and speedo. i swapped my old cherokee from a base model cluster to a full cluster
