Steel tube near output shaft

I working on the np231 in my 90 Cherokee and I was taking off what I can only really refer to as the bearing or output shaft cover? When I trying to pull it off it had a steel tube attached to the inside of it... I'm guessing a lube tube? So I popped the tube off and today I got my new driveshaft and went to put it all back together and can't seem to find the steel tube to reattach. Any tips?
