Steering Stabilizer install

I am trying to replace the Steering Stabilizer i purchased a new one and it does not fit the factory bracket do i have to modify the bushing? I actally bought two different ones and they both have bushing that are about 1/8 to long. it is a 1989 Cherokee Limited

And is the bushing the only part that's too wide? Like it sticks out wider then everything else?

yes the bushing or shim is the only thing it too long and does not fit between the bracket
