Thinking about a 2012 JK...

Anything I should consider? I have a 2004 TJ w/4.0L and 5 speed, thinking about selling it and getting a 2012 JK 2 door w/manual transmission. Any significant pros/cons to doing this? We use the Jeep primarily as a tow vehicle behind our RV and to run around on weekends, I just really like the look and drive of the new models. Any thoughts?

The new 3.6 is nice. Lots of power. Fit and finish is good. Make sure to pay attention to gear ratio. If your towing get as high as you can like 3.55 or 3.73. Unless your going rubi then you get the 4.10.

Sorry miss read. For a toe vehicle you can get the mopar tow bar. It is factory mounted and ready to go. No need to worry about gears.

The one I'm looking at has the 3.73 LS rear axle and the tow package, which I like. Do you have a link to the Mopar Tow Bar? I'd be interested in checking it out. We currently use a Blue Ox Tow Bar, but would have to buy a new Base Plate for the 2012, so it may be just as economocal to get the mopar tow bar. Thanks...

I'm in the same boat minus the towing part. I've had my 04 since new and have been looking at the 12's. I really like the new models, thinking about the Rubi for me.

I dont have a link at this time. But I know it's a factory option and I believe it can be dealer installed. The 3.73 will be nice and the tow package is nice. I will do some digging for a link.

I just Googled Mopar Tow Bar and got a number of hits referring to a recall... Hmmm, may want to rethink that option! It appears to be earlier models, 07-08 mostly. Hopefully any issues have been resolved.

Ya they have been fixed. The recall was inspecting mounting points for proper fasteners and replace with parts supplied by Chrysler.. I work at a dodge dealer never seen a problem with one. But it's all personal preference to.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the Mopar Tow Bar appears to have fixed arms.

Where the Blue Ox arms will retract and extend during set-up and lock into place once connected, which really makes hook-up a breeze.

The Blue Ox requires the purcahse of a separate Base Plate which costs as much as the Mopar set-up, but then I already have the Blue Ox Tow Bar, so that's pretty much a wash! Pleanty to think about, but I have time, need to get the Jeep first!

Getting back to the question of the 2012 Wrangler. I bought a Sport. The new motor is great. lots of power. Had to put a glass pack on it so I could hear it when going down the road. Helps me to remember what gear I'm in. No complaints at all. The dealer forgot to recalibrate my speddometer when they put new wheels on it. The Tex. DPS clocked me at 79mph in a 70mph limit. He was nice and let me go.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I just found this old post and saw your question. I think I have reconsidered and I'm going to keep the TJ. I can put a couple grand into it and have it looking like new and save about $25K in the process! If I change my mind in the future, I'll let you know...
