Well last night I found out that on the passanger side spring hanger the little nut that is welded inside the frame broke lose and spins and spins, and well now I cant finish liftin the jeep. Any suggestions on what I should do. Cut the hanger off and re-weld he nut or what ever is in there back on?

Thanks Chase

Hi 5speed - Drill a small hole thru the frame as close to the bolt hole as possible - when the bit gets thru the frame, you want it to hit that nut that spins free or at least clip the edge of it. You may have to drill at a little angle towards the hole instead of drilling straight thru the frame as one would normally. The key to making this work is then taking a wirefeed welder and feeding the wire into that hole and "spot welding" the nut on the inside to the side of the hole you just drilled. In issues thru thin body metal, use a small # bit and less amperage....in thicker and heavier duty situations (like yours) the hole can be a bit bigger with more amps to spot weld that free-spinning pain in the.....this is pretty much what your idea was to fix it anyway. Let us know if this worked. LBR

been there, done that... LBR mentions spot welding it but whats to say it won't break again when you put a wrench on it again? It was spot welded from the factory...

with mine, i used a dremel / cut off wheels and cut a slot out of the bottom of the little "pouch" against the frame rail. cut the bolt off with a sawzall and let the nut fall out of the slot you cut in there. you can put a wrench on it when you tighten things back up, then just weld the little slot you cut out back in. simple bead around it works just fine...

I would do it like Nate said, and before you weld the section back up, re-weld the heck out of the bolt first.

it sounds like dingus has the right idea. my co-worker had the same problem with a nut on the frame that the lower control arm of a honda mounts to. he ground out a hole big enough w/ a die grinder to fit a wrench on the nut that had broken loose in-side the frame and was able to tighten it that way.

here's my jeep getting re-welded:
