Throttle/mixture problem

I'm not sure what the problem, can't quite put my finger on it. I didnt have this problem a week ago. But heres what's going on, I spent about 2hours trying to getting fuel to the carb, at the end of which I found that I needed to give it a little gas to fire up. It has an electric fuel pump and I didn't have to give it any gas before. Then while reving it to warm it up a little bit, some smoke came up from where the shifter is. Now, I can't put the gas pedal to the floor anymore. Almost as if the firing order is off but I'm positive that it's not(like I said it was running smoothly last week). Another thought is that the trany fears aren't engaging completely. I don't really know tho.

It keeps jumping when I lay down on the throttle

Can somebody give me some insight, please??

i think you might have timing chain .jump time. that happens .when you shut off engine it jumps. when was the last time it was changed

you may need a new alternator, you could have had a bad one for a long time, its just finally giving way now, so its not pumping gas to well because the alternator cant produce current, and gas is possibly going down underneath and clogging/burning up.

No, electrical is all fine. I think I may have figured out the problem over the weekend. I think my finicky eldebrock needs adjustment, I'll have to look up the factory settings.

I have the Holley on my 360 and everytime the temp changes greater than 20 deg. and humidity goes way up or way down it is time for a little tweak. Part of the problem with carbs.

wow, i never had to adjust any of my carbs like that. the only carb i have trouble with is this weber 34. other wise, not a bit of trouble on weber 32/36, quadrajets, motorcrafts, honda carbs.

I am not a fan of Holley carbs, it is what came on the CJ when I got it. I am looking to see if I can scrape enough $$$$ for a injection system of some type for the 347 I am building right now. If need be I will go edelbrock, had good luck with them in my Bronco.

That's funny, I had a Holley when I had a 304 and I liked it slot better than the edelbrock that I have now on my 360. The edelbrock is too finicky and I go to adjust it to make it run smoother and it gets all out of wack. I prob should have gotten another Holley or a webber, I hear they are really great on inclines. But if you do go with edelbrock good luck with that.

i think you guys should get an adapter and run a rochester quadrajet. that was a damn good carb on my 79 stepside. my buddy said he had one on his k5 and it never had problems anywhere he went off roading

Wow, that is funny. Wonder if it could be the different environments? I still have an older 650 double pumper, maybe I will have that professionally rebuilt and try it. Probably cheaper than a new edelbrock.

Vacuum leak?

Isn't a 650 dp going to be to much carb for a 360?

Super, The 650 will go on my stroked 302, if need be once final compression, HP numbers are established I will detune it to 600 or 550 cfm. I really want to go fuel injected but with some personal family issues that have come up I don't believe the money tree will support it.......
