According to a statement by Jeep, the Ohio plant will build the “power electronics module” for the upcoming Jeep Wrangler plug-in hybrid. The Jeep plug-in hybrid is set to launch in 2020. The “power electronics module” will house both the inverter (this changes the DC current coming from the battery into AC for powering the motor) as well as the charging system. This module will be located underneath the vehicle, between the exhaust and the prop shaft.
Jeep first announced the Wrangler plug-in hybrid at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto show, alongside the new JL Wrangler. To date their haven’t been many details, however rumor has it that the Wrangler hybrid will borrow parts from the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan.
Jeep has announced that it’s five year plan is to add electrified powertrains to 30 nameplates by 2022. This may include models such as a Maserati plugin . Hopefully Jeep gets a few more plugins during this rollout.
