Too much heat.

I've got an '89 YJ that has a really good heater. It was appreciated in January. However, it doesn't shut completely off and I don't think it will be as geatly appreciated in July. Any ideas as how to get the thing shut off completely?

if you are reffering to the fan still runs, the top slider bar that has heat and defrost selections on it, when it is slid all the way to the left it will shut the fan off. As far as the heat (bottom slide bar), if you are still getting heat when you have it slid over to the cold side it might be the cable that it controls needing lubed. Or, possibly something fell down the defroster vent and is preventing the door from closing all the way, or, there is a gasket on the heat door that could be bad and still letting heat into the interior. The last 2 ideas require a tear down of the heat box in order to fix. About the same as taking it apart in order to replace the heater core. Just like anything else on a jeep, it isnt a hard job but it is time consuming.
