Hey guys I need a little help. I have a 97 4.0 auto transmission and the check engine light went on. The code's read

P0700 - Transmission control system Malfunction
P0705 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)
P0753 - Gear 5 Incorect Ratio

When I drive it it seems like it is enguaging the transmision at the wrong times and has a hrd time shifting into OD on the Hwy.

Any suggestions... Need more info?

Thanks[addsig]

well, that transmission (most likely) is a 4 speed automatic right? so technically, 5th gear does not physically exist (its just overdrive then...)

that said, and the other two codes going awry, it sounds like a sensor or a computer module. other than that, i have NO IDEA HOW TO HELP.

best of luck...

I would check the connections between the transmission and the TCM which is located under the dash on the drivers side on the inner fender panel. Maybe find a unit with the same transmission and swap the TCM out and see if that makes a difference.[addsig]

Any help? Also to add to my problem. I just overheated on the way back from lunch.... First time Ever. My guess is that the transmission is overworking the engine? or maybe another problem...[addsig]

well, there is a line going from the transmission to the radiator for cooling of the trans fluid... might be related...[addsig]
