the vacuum canistor in my cj is completely rotted out...In attempting to replace it i lost the smaller line, and the bigger line seems to be the only one that made any difference in engine performance...so i plugged it with a large bolt and tied it back...could someone tell me where the bigger line goes to, where the smaller line goes to, and the significant of this canister is in the first place...and should this decrease my gas mileage and/or power any?.....I hate all this emissions junk under my hood...but i don't have the heart to rip it all out and mess up my engine. So i guess i'll have to deal with this crazy and confusing vacuum line mess til i swap in a new engine. Someone help...this vacuum bull really does SUCK! :-( [addsig]

If you're talking about the evaporative emissions canister, then it's there to control fuel pressure. It's charcoal filled and absorbs excessive fuel vapors that build within the fuel system. I'm very familiar with it because with my 90 YJ I kept smelling gas and couldn't figure out where it was coming from and it was really worrying me. After carefully examining the vacuum and emissions hoses, I noticed a hose coming from the canister that was jammed into the the side railing of the chassis and it wasn't connected to anything. I got a vacuum T and hooked up the emissions vapor hoses correctly. No more smell of gas.[addsig]
