so i was driving up the mountain when my jeep started blowing white smoke all over the road, its done this 2 times in the past but not as bad,, so i get out and see oil dripping on my exhaust pipe and smoking,, i was told back in december i was going to need a new valve cover gasket, my question is, how hard is it and what steps should i take,, not familiar with straight 6 motor do i need to use black silicone as well as the gasket. any help would be appreciated

Its not that bad of a job except for the very back bolt that you can barely feel and not see at all. That one will have you crying as you cut your hand on the lip of the firewall. I used a 1/4 inch socket with some thick grease to hold the bolt while I got it started.

I say go for it. Buy the best gasket you can afford cause you don;t want to do this again. They make a silcone gasket you can get from NAPA. I used the copper silcone in the tube to glue the gasket into place while I installed the cover. I put a little bead on the head, not the valve cover. I seemed less messy that way.

Another important thing. While you have the valve cover off. Take time to clean out the PCV valve if yours has the one built into the valve cover. This is a must.

now get after it.:purple: :purple:
