Valve cover identification.

Hey all, I am new here but already I can't believe how much information I am finding here. My buddy and I are building a pair of YJ's in my shop this winter. My motor is all detailed and ready to put back in but I just found out about the 4.0L head swap. So we were discussing it in the shop and looking at the two Jeeps. Mine is an '88, and his an '87. Mine has an aluminum valve cover on it with what looks to be the 4.0L bolt pattern, but with three bolt holes in the top for mounting a bunch of vacuum crap and the oil filler is in a different place. His looks like any other 258 plastic cover. They both have the same exhaust manifold so I don't think the head has been swapped. Anyone know what is going on?

good question. mine is supposedly a 4.0 swap but i don't really know how to tell either

what would i look for then? mine supposedly has a 99 engine in it, but with carb instead of injection. it looks like a normal 4.2 to me though but i am not one to know the differences to look for. i had to change the oil pressure sender because it had a cherokee sender on it and it wasn't reading when i bought it
