want crank when hot

on my 88 yj when the engine gets hot it dont want to crank. its getting gas, spark but it will just sit and keep turing over. let it cool for a few min. then it will crank and go on. could the crank positioning sensor cause this problem. it will also not idle when hot. this has just started about 2 weeks ago. i asked about a motor swap to a small block yesterday. is finding a 6cyl to replace the 4 a better way to go.

You'll need a new transmission for a bigger motor, so factor that cost in too.

A friend of mine had the same problem of not running when hot. Turns out he had a cracked distributor cap. When it got hot the crack would expand causing it not to run properly. When it cooled, the crack closed up.
