wiper problems

Does anyone know how long the Wiper Motor Link is suppose to be on a 73 cj5. the one from the motor to the arms. i dont have one and cant find one any where online and tried to make one and nothing works. i tried 8 1/2 in long and is still to short and i dont have anything longer then that right now but will one from 75 on up work. the 10 1/2 in long link? please let me know asap
