Looking around for a 4wd Wrangler to use as a DD. Being a newbe to Jeeps which years are best & which years are to avoid (bad breaks, weak trans, steering prob etc.
I just want something to use as a winter DD but, have a little fun in summer (no off road) doors & top off.
Good idea or not?:???:
Thanks in advance

Personally 03 to 05 TJ are best. All models and years have their issues.

87-95 (AKA the yj) is the square head lighted jeep wranglers, avoid the 87-91 from what I have heard and read, weak trans and tcase.
96-? (AKA the tj) is round head light jeep wrangler, don't know much about them.
then the JK,s came out, don't know what year they started but are still currently made.
I don't know much about any of these models so others will have to fill you in better.

All the yjs are fine except the early 5 speed models. The automatic ones came with the same trans as the later ones.

The jk and jku are not so hot. My wife has one and its not that great, its really a dog. Bad gas mileage, not enough power for the size of the vehicle, lots of rattles, ac is poor, sheet metal is very thin on body panels (our cat makes the hood bend in when she walks on it), the seats are uncomfortable, man, I could go in and on.

The on tj I have ever ridden in was nice. Rode like a car. Both yjs my wife and I have had were very dependable. Her 93 Sahara was super dependable. My 87 has been a great jeep also. No issues at all on either of them.

I have two '92 Wranglers 4.0 AX15
Great trucks !
A bit bouncy on the highway with the leaf spring setup but I wouldn't trade 'em for anything .
