XJ parts swapping

RE: INTERSHIP / Co-op ... oil field

A friend of mine has a 2WD 2.5L 2000 XJ that he wants to trade me for some other crap. The engine is blown and it's been salvaged. Other than that it looks like it's in good shape. I won't have a chance to go look at it closely until next week though and I have a few questions

1. What will swap over to my 88 XJ? I'm mainly concerned with the interior pieces.

2. What diff gears would a 2wd four cylinder have? 4.10:1?

3. I know they are a little different, but what body panels will bolt up? I need a new rear hatch.....is there any chance the newer one would bolt up and not look completely stupid? What about the front clip?

4. It has the aluminum 5 star type rims on it. They look similar to the rims on my TJ. How wide are those? Is the backspacing the same as the wheels on my 88 4WD?

RE: Jeep recovery gone wrong.

Rims should be same dimensions for the most part. THe rear axle will be either 3.73 (auto) or 4.10 (manual). That's the most common.

Can't speak for sure about the interior or body panels, there were lots of changes between the two.

Pre-'97 and post '97 were two entirely different Jeep... I don't know how much luck you'd have trying to do a swap, hell, you'd be better off swapping into a TJ as far as the dash, seats, and centre console...

Just curious, how the heck does one blow the engine on a Jeep that young? Mine's got 96,000 miles on it now and still going strong... Not healthy, but strong :)

Where to Mount a Hi-Lift Jack on a YJ?

I'm pretty sure it was a theft recovery. It belongs to two brothers who own a garage and towing service. They get strange stuff like that in all the time. After the transmission let go in my Camaro and I proceeded to blow the engine in it up, I parked it behind their garage where it still sits. One of them wants the Camaro now, and he wants to trade something for it. He has it and two other late 80's XJs(one runs) and a couple of late 70s SJs(one of those runs too), so I might just pass on the whole thing and trade the Camaro for a bunch of Jeep parts........but I need to go look at it. If I can get a title for it and it's a two door, I might just use my 88 to convert it to 4wd or slam it with the V8 and make a hotrod. It's only got either 18 or 19k miles on it and it's in fairly good shape for a salvage vehicle. The body is in great shape as far as I can remember and I know the interior is okay because they were going to use the seats and stuff in another of their projects.

build up the newer jeep with your 88 and convert it to 4wd

Dingus, that probably makes the most sense. I have to see what the deal is with getting a title for it. A cool thing about it is that it's the same color scheme as my 99 TJ. They would look cool sitting beside each other in the driveway
