YJ Lost Ignition

My YJ has lost the ignition. All other equipment is working, wipers turn signals, heater and engine turns over. No dash light. I have checked and changed fuses, relays. Can anybody suggest where else to look for the fault. All wire connections are good.

Welcome to Jeepz. What year is your Jeep and which Engine do you have? Have you checked your Fuel -- do you have Fuel? On the Spark Side--- Have you checked your Ignition Coil --- confirm IF you have Spark from Coil? Might be a Sensor -- Crank Posiitiin (CPS) or Throttle Position (TPS). Do you Have ANY Engine Codes? A Haynes Manual and a DVM (multimeter) Could both be Handy for Checking out this Problem. ----- JB

I have a "93" 4cylinder UK supplied model. I have a Haynes manual plus multimeter. I don't have anyway to check for codes. Fuel is OK and I don't have any spark at the plugs. I have power at the fuses and relays. All connections at sensors are good. The Haynes manual I have is for American models so have managed to source a UK manual and I'm waiting delivery. Thanks for your suggestions.

my 89 yj has done that twice, once it was a faulty ignition coil (15$) and the second time it was doing it randomly and it was the ignition control module (60$). hope this helps.

Ditto for me... 3 bad coils have left me in tight spots. Now I always carry a spare!

my yj was recently doing this as well. Do the dash lights come on as soon as you turn the key? I found out mine wasnt and it turned out being the pcm. Changed the pcm and it fixed it.

I'm the same no dash lights, what's the PCM and where is it located? is that the ignition control module. Is it located on the bulkhead under the hood. We Brits drive on the wrong side of the road and everything under the hood is the opposite side from the American Jeeps.

PCM (powertrain control module, IIRC) is the computer itself (also called ECU or Electronic Control Module). It is located in the engine bay below the brake booster (at least in the YJs), and it is a black box (literally).

If none of the above fixes your problem, let me share a peoblem I had. There is an actuator latch inside the steering column that engages the ignition switch on the steering column via a metal rod. The actuator works via a cam that turns when the key is turned in the ignition lock cylinder. I have an 88 YJ and my actuator latch broke inside the steering column. When I turned the key, I had nothing. Fix was to tear the steering column apart and replace the actuator latch. A kit is available from steeringcolumn. com for about 20 dollars. I hope this isn't your problem as fixing it is a royal pain the the tookus. If it is your problem, you can PM me if you want and I'll be glad to offer any assistance I can. Good luck.

Thanks, I've checked it and it looks like it's working OK. The rod is moving.
