YJ manual locking hubs

:pHas anyone on here switched there vacuum disco's over to manual hubs? I just installed the Reid knuckles on a Dana 30 and was wondering how I could bypass the old 4wd indicater switch on the old housing and wire it so my 4wd light still works. I know it is not a big thing but would be cool if it still worked.
93 yj.
Thanks, Greg.

I wouldn't bother with the manual hubs, the price of the kit is high and there is no real benefit unless you have a spool or welded dif. that said, to remove the CAD, you can simply run TJ front D30 shafts. there will not be a intermidiate shaft and the U-joints will be the larger, slightly stronger joints. I ran TJ shafts in my D30 for years, the only mod is you need to change the inner passenger side seal, Napa carries the part but I forget the part number. I wheeled with a welded diff, I did drive my jeep on the street on occasions, and it was not an ideal situation. if you run a detroit, or a selectable or a lunch box locker that will dissengage, you will be fine.

To get the dash light to light up, if it really matters to you, take the two wires off the CAD diaphram and put a switch between them. I never bothered, I just cut the wires out, a dash light was not that important to me.

;)Hello Jps4jeep,
Already did a conversion, but not in a kit. Just checking to see if anyone was able to rework there indicator switch to work without the disco setup. And I know this is no big deal for many, buck cool if it still worked. It's already wired with a light bulb and a handy location, might as well make it work.
Thanks for your reply!

you could probably mount a microswitch to work off the arm on the t-case. they are mounted on golf carts on the pedals to work the electric motor solenoids and are in water and mud their whole life so they should be fine on the bottom of a jeep

Grab a 4wd indicator switch from the transfer case of a TJ and install it on your transfer case where the vacuum switch is located.

Thanks for the replies! I am going to try the TJ switch idea. Just need to find a wiring diagram for that setup. Many thanks, Greg.

Greg,
Where did you go for informatioin on doing the manual hub conversion?
Thanks,
Rob

Hello Rob,
Go to the Reid racing website and look under Dana/30 44 conversion knuckles. The knuckles themselves are expensive but you can use them to convert to a high steer setup also. Also they have a parts list with part numbers for all the conversion pieces that you would need. Really the only pieces to the whole conversion that you can't get from the auto parts store or boneyard are the knuckles.
Good luck, Greg.
