What are my options for a hardtop.What fits is the question.In the used department.I have a soft top now and would like to get a hard top.I think I would have to assume that pickins' are slim in this area.

Slim Pickens on the used market but they do come up.

Well, I went through this on an 04 Jeep wrangler I looked into buying. It was a soft top, the shop owner bought an OEM hard top and was going to convert it over. Per the guy the main hassle was hooking up with the rear wiper-washer-defroster electrical. It takes an add on harness from the rear to the front (under-dash) harness. He said It also would need a diff washer tank (dual pump) 1 pump covers the winshield the 2nd the rear hatch glass which you also have to wire into the engine harness. Also, you need OEM factory under-dash switches to control them. He also had issues with the top, said it was an 03 or older so the rear electrical plug for the hatch washer/wiper stuff was "different" than the 04-06 so he gave up on the project and decided to leave it as a soft top so I passed on the deal. I beleive there are tops avail with a plain glass rear window or without the washer/wipper Defrost stuff, so you could locate one of those and it would be easier.

Does it require removal of the roll cage.My thoughts are to get rid of soft top,add hard top without roll cage.Add "A" frame roll bar with bikini top for summer.Is this a decent workable plan?

Factory hardtops fit over the rollcage. Bestop and Smittybilt make aftermarket hardtops but I don't know if they make longer ones for the Unlimited

and you want to keep your nice full roll bar. the older cj style bars don;t look as cool
