1989 YJ Engine Cutting Out

Recently purchased a 1989 Wrangler project for my son and I to work on. It has the 4.2L engine, automatic transmission, & 2bb carb. It ran fine for the first couple of drives but now it starts cutting out when in gear. We have replaced plugs, wires, dist. cap, rotor, air filter, and fuel filter. Any advice on where to look next?

Thanks...Bill

A few places to look would be the fuel system. Is the pump working properly,is the line clogged,do you have good fuel pressure.I would also look at the carburetor.Start with some carb cleaner and make sure the flap is not getting stuck.

The Nutter Bypass did the trick! The bypass has made a really big difference in how it runs and my 16 year old son is now all smiles again. So the Jeep is running again (for now...don't want to jinx it) and my son is hooked on working on his Jeep. All in all a good evening. Thanks for the help!

Cool beans! Just remember the TeamRush tune-up when the time comes.

Also if that BBD ever gives you any more crap, get an MC2100 from the junkyard & rebuild it. (easy) Much better carb!

Those two mods are easy & cheap & work well with the Nutter.
