3 wheel drive jeep

I just bought a 2002 jeep tj sport, when I popped it into 4 low to climb a hill at the top of the crest, only one front (passenger side right)wheel was turning the the other wasnt , does anyone know what could be causing this ?

That's normal. Time for some lockers. The front diffs are usually open from factory. Alot of rear ones are to. Meaning the torque goes to the wheel with the least traction there for limiting the torque to pull you forward. Lockers will lock the axles together and not allow that to happen. I run an Aussie locker rear and Detroit tru trac in the front to keep it driveable. A locker in the front is great but can lead to a host of problems and broken parts. So selectable is the way to go in front

Chances are that only one rear and one front were turning, which is normal.

One wheel turning is sort of a good sign. It means you are getting power and torque to the front end, which means the transfer case and hub locks work. It also means yo don't have a locker up there. Remember, a Jeep in 4wd without lockers is really a two wheel drive....one wheel in fron and one wheel in back. Add lockers front and rear, and then you get true 4wd.

I put Eaton elockers in mine front and rear...and the JEEPS CAPABILITIES INCREASED TREMENDOUSLY.

If you have to ask, then I strongly recommend not doing it yourself.
No offense. :shades:

I am not running this setup currently, but when I had more time for 'froading my preference was a limited-slip in front and a locker in the rear. Less likely to break parts and better for snow.
