Acetone???

RE: whats it worth $$$

Now that gas prices are pushing $3/gal (more in some areas), I'm ready to start the acetone test (1-3.5 ounces per 10 gals of gas). I remember Bounty mentioning that he'd tried this. Anyone one else currently or formerly running it?? Opinions one way or the other?

RE: TJ Transmission Problem -> Bad Warranty Service

None that I've seen or read about. I use about 3.5oz per 10gal of fuel. Amounts to about a 15% savings after figuring in the cost of acetone. Lots of good info on it if you search www.naxja.org/forum .

So, what was your actual mileage gain? I'm currently making between 20 and 23 mpg (depending on whether I go for the muddy roads on the way home or not). I could stand to get a little better. I'm getting the electric fan sometime in September (it's my early b-day present to me).

Ya, if anything it sure would clean everything out real good!!

I have also wanted to start trying this, but have never gotten around too it.

RE: Foreign Financial Aid

My '95 2.5L YJ.

May soon try it in our '05 TrailBlazer with the DOD 5.3L v8, after I determine the mileage increase from some other mods.

RE: low brake pedal after beefy axle swap

dont put too much in, it will decrease your gas mileage. the reason acetone works is that it breaks the surface tension on the gas down so that it burns more and cleaner thus resulting in a more efficient engine and less feul loss

that sounds like a good thing to try. i should put some in my sisters honda and see how much more MPGs she gets.

First tank complete!! Wasn't real scientific about it, just curious about any increase in range. Gased up with 270 mi. on the odometer.......been awhile since I've seen that there. 14.5 gal - comes to right near 19 mpg. Was getting 18 or less previously (all numbers unadjusted for 31" tires - I've never changed my speedo gear  ). Anyway, I'm pleased and will continue!!

A Word Of Warning!!!!...... Be careful about putting it in plastic containers!! My first batch I had (measured, of course) in a beer bottle - that was kinda cool pulling up to a gas pump and sticking a beer bottle in my tank!!! Got some strange looks!!! 2nd batch I stuck in a "Slick50 Injector Cleaner" bottle (16 oz.)........Big Mistake!!!!!! That stuff'll eat up certain types of plastic, but I figured the injector cleaner bottle would be OK.......WRONG!! I'm sticking with beer bottles :D :D

Yeah, most of the places I'd read about this mentioned that aspect of it. My first batch for the wife's Camry and the YJ were "Cutex" nail polish remover....came in handy 4 oz bottles, which is just the right size for the YJ, and the bottles are obviously "acetone-proof".

So far, I've done about 260 miles on the first tank, and plan on filling tomorrow after work when it'll be close to the 300 mark. Doesn't look like the needle has dropped near as far as usual, it's right between the 1/2 and the 3/4 mark now. I've been getting 21-22 mpg before, so I'm not expecting to get much more out of it, but every little bit helps. I'll report more tomorrow evening after I fill up and do the math.

I didn't see a difference at all in my first tank, but I believe I may have gotten ethanol gas, which I have now read doesn't work as well, or at all, with the acetone. I'm not done experimenting.

Yeah, I read that, too. Supposedly doesn't help if they add alcohol.......I keep forgetting to check that  .....guess I've been lucky!! Good luck.......................to us all!!!

Re: RE: Re: RE: Acetone???

I run about 2.5 oz per tank (19 gal) the last couple months. 1st time in years I'm actually pushing 18mpg out of the TJ.

LOL, yeah acetone and plastic do not mix, I've learned that lesson over the years. You'll be safe with a Nalgene bottle and you can usually pick up small ones (2-3oz) where you can get camping gear (REI, EMS).
