I'm looking to replace my Xplod deck with something with better base, maybe Pioneer or Alpine. The thing is though, I need one with an aux in port so I can hook my ipod up to it. Anyone know what decks have aux in?
Just an option: most decks that do not have a aux input but do have a CD changer control that can be converted into an aux in (typically RCA inputs). This is how I plug my iPod in, I picked up a $20 converter that just plugs into the changer control and I have a cable with RCA to 3.5 mm jack.
I couldn't find the exact one that I have, but I have a Panosonic with aux in. It also has subwoofer controls, and the best part is that it plays mp3s. I love that feature - you just put 100 or so songs on your regular cd and throw it in the player.
I have a Kenwood with "CD changer" control. I have an adapter like Geopig that plugs into the CD controller port. the other end is a headset jack and plug directly into my ipod shuffle. Another option Kenwood has is an ipod controller module that allows you to control the ipod from the head unit. Any Kenwood with CD control will have the same options. Inputs are rare these days unless you've got a hideaway box, but mp3 capability is becoming standard.
My Alpine deck has aux in on it. My buddy plugs his Palm Pilot into his Alpine deck. He was watching movies on it coming through the stereo in his truck when we were camping. I was told by the sales rep that if I hook a car kit for my cell phone into my aux input, it'll automatically mute the music when the phone rings.
If you can get a copy of Crutchfield, they always have an awesome chart for comparing features. I'm not sure if they have it online or not as I always order from the catalog.
Are you running a sub or are you just looking for better bass out of your small speakers? If you're running a sub with a seperate amp then your cheaper (and better) alternative would be to just get a proper crossover. If you're running a good amp and crossover then your deck won't make much of a difference in your bass output.
