Show him Bounty hunter show him Sully I am sure more of you have what he is looking for. My only advice is keep it simple and strong. 1/4" x 4" x 4" angle and you are set to go. tug
I saw a pic of Bounty's a while back and like them.... Id just like some more pics of things like mounting, and how he finished them in the wheel opening, how he ran them under the flares etc. And if anybody else has some good ideas, thats awesome too!!
I actually drafted a template for rocker guards for the machine shop at my school to make based on Bounty/Snitty/Tugs suggestion. I can gladly send them to you. They are electronic. I designed them to fit my YJ that has the stock flares with extension that I think you have, can't tell with all the mud Let me know. Also I guess I could make them available in the how to section along with some of Bounty's pics. Unfortunately I haven't gotten around to getting them made yet Just lemme know if you're interested.
Here's a shot of mine. The 3/16" aluminum rocker guards were sheered and then have a 1" lip rolled under the tub like the body has. I trimmed them to fit the wheel openings and then pop-riveted them on.
The rock sliders are 1" x 3" rectangle tubing welded to the frame at the front, middle and rear and then gusseted at each brace. Like this:
___________
I___I___/
View from top looking down toward the passenger side slider. The frame being the straight line on top and the "I's" and slash being the supports to the frame. It is very strong.
P.S. You goes like my artistry?
Nice guys, keep it coming. Really, the main thing right now as far as design elements is that they need to come up the body. Ive got a spot rusting out down there, and Im going to fix it, but I dont have the money to paint it right. So if I cover up the unmatched paint with rocker guards I kill 2 birds with one stone. plus its an excuse to get rocker guards and ditch the factory side steps.
It's a 97 and already rusted bad enough to require body work? Man I don't envy you guys with the winter salt. Mine's a 78 and has only required one small rust repair under the tailgate. My rocker guards do, however, cover some dents that were made by the previous owner.
