how do soft doors attach?

First off, Im new to the site and have never really been a jeep guy. I have had several YJs and a CJ but as four as trail rides. Iv always thought they were kind of junk. I have had an FJ with 40s, a scout with 35s, and several other vehicles and I would say they were a lot better than the jeeps iv had. That all changed last week when I bought my first TJ. This thing is AMAZING. It has sway bar dissconnects and will flat out go anywhere with stock tires!

So heres my question though how do the soft doors attach to the hard doors. does the frame just slide on or does it attach some how. seems like

The Older style if i'm not mistaken, slides down in the guide on the lower half of the door then the lower section of the soft window attaches to the door channels. The newer models just slides in the guides. Welcome to Jeepz.com..

i got cut off on my last post. yeah, i thought my yj had channels for the soft door to slide into, but the tj just falls into the guides and nothing else attaches it? my does not fit well so should i assume the frame is bent on the soft door? thanks for the advice!

If the plastic sleeves in the lower doors are worn or cracked the uppers will not stay tight. They are replaceable - I think you just turn them 90 degrees and pull them out. For some reason there seem to be two styles out there for replacements so be sure you order the correct year parts for your doors. One of my frames came a little bent right from the factory. The center pin was pushed out so far that I couldn't get it back in without a struggle. I just tweaked it inwards a little and it's been fine. Over time the uppers will get a little more wiggly when the doors are open. Mine are now about four years old and they are starting to wiggle (I've used them a lot, though. I remove the uppers - or the whole door - at every chance I get). Half doors are a blast. Enjoy your Jeep;) Best of luck - John

Yeah, those old Scouts were quite a truck. Heavy, but really nice.

thanks crazy. I think mine do look a little worn. ill try that, and maybe bend on it a little too:)

yeah the scout was a monster, i had to change the lifters in it and i bet the upper intake alone weighed 75lbs!
