identify this soft top?

well, i know a lot about history, and study it often, and also as someone who builds various things, ive also experimented with otherwise outdated technologies and materials.. in my experience, a lot of old equipment and materials will last decades longer than anything made now... when working with wood, hide glue used since about 35,000 BC is still better than modern synthetics.. wool is better for outdoor use than any polyesters, and i fine linen twine is better at so many things than modern nylons

at some point, this country turned from what worked best, to what was cheapest to produce, making more profits.. and really, i can pinpoint this change having occured during, or soon after WWII

my theory is the war sparked a sort of mini industrial revolution within the country.. people had to find cheaper ways to produce things faster to supply the war effort, and the people here at home, when the war was over they hung onto those techniques and ideas to make more money

so when i go looking for antique stuff.. i focus my efforts to WWII or earlier, and use only non plastic materials, even replaced my nylon fishing line with linen twine, and use only hide and hoof glues for woodworking projects

(yes, this has gotten way off topic.. but eeh, its still interesting stuff)

mine are the old electric ones, with the funny shaped lights that say singer on them and the etched silver metal covers over the needle areas. i can't find any treadle machines here because everyone from mexico buys them and takes them over because they are so good for sewing leather. they are all metal in the gear and rod area instead of plastic like the new ones that break so easy

ive been thinking of getting something like an MB/GPW or CJ5 and make all my own modifications and accessories.. just skip the aftermarket entirely except for maybe a better carburator... i dont need to buy pre-made seat covers, or a hard/soft top, or any of it really

all iwould need is a decent por-15 undercoating, and a nice OD paint job and id be set... if i didnt go to larger tires on either vehicle i could get by without power steering as well.. and have a truly utilitarian jeep

this is also why i prefer leaf springs on jeeps.. theyre simpler, stronger, and last longer, certainly the choice for a rather straight forward, utilitarian off-road vehicle
