jeep sounds like a diesel.....but its not?

I have a 97 tj 2.5l it sounds like I have valve slapping. Checked the oil changed the oil tried oil treatment tried different gas gas treatment. Well I asked a friend and he said that bc I have 127,000 on it it may b time to retorque the cam bolts and check the gaps inthe rollers and retorque them as well. I just need to know how hard this will b and could I pull it off in a weekend and what tools will I need besides the obvious. Thanks

thats low mileage. don't you have hydraulic lifters? i don;t think theres any adjusting or anything on those things.

is your timing chain tight still? maybe you have some slack

wound up being something stupid
the inspection cover was hitting the flywheel

Nah this definitely sounds like its valves or something along that line.
