Locals in the Olympics?

Any of you have someone from your hometown or area in the Olympics?

We've got Kimmie Meissner in figure skating this week... I don't often watch the skating but we'll be pulling for the young 16 yr old from Bel Air, MD (where I grew up).

Wayne Gretzky and Rob Blake - Canada's hockey team (from my original hometown Brantford, Ontario, Canada, not L.A.).

Colorado has a bunch.

Men's Downhill there are 3: Jeremy Bloom, Toby Dawson and Travis Mayer

Women's Snowboarding: Gretchen Bleile,

Women's luge: Courtney Zablocki

Women's skiing: Lindsey Kildow (had that ugly crash in the downhill)

Moguls: Vail native Toby Dawson and Michelle Roark of Denver

Aerials: Ryan St. Onge

Hockey: Chris Drury (lives in Castle Rock, CO)

I watched some curling today for the first time. Interesting sport. I'll say one thing, those broom guys are intense :-)

I don't normally watch curling that much but I've been into it lately. Its alot harder then it looksand its fun to play.

I have to admit, my wife and I laughed like crazy when we first saw those guys sweeping like maniacs, but we watched for a while and although I don't think I could ever get into it as a participant or spectator I now see there is a lot involved in the sport.

now now mingez, its no fair to claim something as yours if it isn't. chris drury is a new england boy. he lead his hometown of trumbull, ct to the little league world series title way back, then proceeded to win a national title in men's hockey at Boston University, and then went on to help the ave's win the cup. a winner on every stage, and a new englander at heart :)

LOL. Most people move in their life, so I suppose you could say that about every olympian.

1- I'm not a Coloradan, I'm a transplanted NorCal.

2- I hate the Av's! And when he was an Av, I hated him.

3- He was overrated then, and he's overrated now! He did a great job helping the US team suck! I wish he'd move, cause he's bringing the property values down with his silly NE accent! You people can have him! I thought I was doing you all a favor by unburdening you all with another one of your kind. Damn Chowdes. :p :p :p ;)

I tell you what, you can have Drury, if the Nothern Cali can have Tom Brady back!!!

BTW-I just copied that list from the Denver Post.

tom brady is part of the new england dynasty. hopefully he is here to stay. and i think you are being a bit unfair to mr drury, a winner doesnt have to score rediculous goals like rick nash or ovechkin, he brings something else to the table. every teammate he's ever had has said that there's just something about him. just something that says this kid is a winner, and hey, its worked for him so far.

and as far as the american men's hockey team goes, they got what they deserved. and i believe another boston product (boston college, by way of rochester, ny) would be one of the best american born players right now, brian gionta, all 5'7" of him. and trust me, thats a generous listing, i've got a picture of me with him, and 5'7" is pushing it.

One of my oldest brother's best friends was on the Olympic Decathlon team in the late 80's through early 90's. He missed qualifying for the Olympics by less than a 100th of a second or something like that, so he was an alternate. He was in a Kodak commercial, running along a beach in CA. He was HUGE!! He was also into Karate and was a black belt. His name is Brad Nachtigal and he was from the Partridge, KS area (near Hutchinson).

Now he's an author of fitness books and teaches people how to train. I know he used to be Director of Athletics at KU in Lawrence, KS, but don't know if he still is. Here's his website:
