More power!

Re: North and South

Man, I just want more power. Can it really be done without a v8 swap?
What do I need, maybe a new catback, K&N intake and a chip. Is that all I can do for the most part? And would all that increase power as well as fuel economy?
Thanks!

I wouldn't be surprised if the mods you listed only added around 10hp. Maybe more, but only at high rpms. Bolt on modifications often don't add as much hp as they are advertised for. In my opinion, catbacks are for sound and not power. If you really want more power, forced induction or internal modifications are the only way to go without an engine swap. It is possible to get V8 power of a Jeep inline six, but that often involves stroking it or supercharging it.

as said... the mods you mentioned never give anything too much power.... if you want power from intake, you'll have to bore your throttle body and get a good high flow tube and filter... if you want power from exhaust, get a header and run a full exhaust... i've never seen what a chip really does, some people swear by them, some people swear at them.

Get yourself and electric fan. A good junkyard fan comes from a 3.8 taurus, dual speed and great flow. that cuts down on mechanical drag from a clutch fan.

You can get a performance camshaft. A cam, if done by the right hands, can be changed in one day.

You can get the heads worked. You can port match yourself.

Other than all that, if you want big power, there are many options involving rebuilding the engine. There are many stroker options availible
