P0171 running lean on bank 1 and then a code for throttle position input high or something like that
jfrabat said:I get the TPS input one when I floor it for a while (like 30 seconds or so). I wonder if it's also the O2 sensor acting up...
Well I thought o2 sensors were gona cost me an arm and a leg turns out there only bout 35 here in az. But I cleared the code yesterday after I cleaned a few things and hasn't came back. Iv been driving it quit a but aswell and seems to be running a lot better
mud4feet said:Just keep an eye on your gas mileage. Those O2 sensors will suck the gas mileage down when they quit doing their thing, whatever that is. When mine went bad (I have 2!?!?) also noticed an appreciable loss of power. Hope that helps.
Ya but usually if they go bad the code will come up. I know I only c 2. One at the manifold and one after the cat next to my transfer case. But parts store ppl r telling me there is 3. 2 upstream and one down stream. I must be blind but I only c 2
mud4feet said:Yeah, you're right! Will generally flip a code. I have an '03 4 banger......only 2 - one up by the manifold and the other one down underneath. I've always wondered what the difference is between "upstream" and "downstream".....different part numbers but what's the difference between what they do???? One more thing that makes you go "hmmmmm?????".
Well I think upstream reads the true exhaust and downstream reads the filtered exhaust that goes through the cat and makes adjustments based on those reading. My guess is different material since the exhaust before the cat is much "harmful"
mud4feet said:That makes sense......thanks for the education!!
jps4jeep said:100% correct regarding up stream and down stream.
Most post 02 vehicles will have 2-4 up stream, mulitple cats, and corresponding down stream sensors. to better ID motor issues.
Damn that's a lot of spending when all those goes to shit. Cats aren't cheap
JPNinPA said:Tell me about it. On top of the cost of O2's the Cats are known to go bad.
PS I hope you put OEM O2 in there and not aftermarket. Many report issues with aftermarket Os's.
superj said:Have you a multimeter to test your sensors? If not, drive to your auto parts place and tell the dude you want to know about multimeters and if they can give you a quick show on how to use it so you can test your sensors. Then you will know if your map is bad or not.
On the newer jeeps, do you have to adjust your tps to a certain amount when you put it back on? On my xj, I had to measure the resistance when installing the tps after cleaning or it would read wrong and cause all kinds of running issues
