Stinking Windshield

We had a good run at Gray Rock this weekend only to end in a bad manner. I forgot to fold the windshield up after I loaded the Jeep on the trailer. Once I got up to about 40 mph, the wind folded it for me. Unfortunately it shattered the glass and now is spider webbed all the way across. That glass was only a year old. It sucked.

That sucks!!! had my windshield get broke on the way back from getting replaced, a dumptruck threw a small rock at it and hit just under the windshield wiper, put a chip in it and by the time i got home had a crack from top to bottom. Needless to say I still have the same windshield 2 years latter.

Quotes from $175 to $258. The last one was $100. If plexi didn't scratch so bad, I would just use that.

I'm on my 4th windshield in 2 years. First one died when the top ripped off....second one a couple months later tornado chasing in Nebraska stopped a hailstone, third one last month stopped a pheasant......so far I have no chips in the newest one, knock on wood!!

I went through 3 windshields in 1 year in my TJ. Rock from truck, softball (apparently not soft enough), and a mysterious crack that showed up one night.

Don't you tie it down when it's folded down? I've never folded mine down but figured it would bounce around when going over bumps if it's not tied down.
Don't feel bad. I forgot to latch my hood down last summer and drove away only to have it fly up at around 80 kms/hr. Had to replace the hood and the windshield.

I know this sounds stupid but have you looked in to the racing type of plexi glass?
Quadratec has some thing called speed glassthat might work for you.

No it wasn't tied down. It never has been. The hinges used to be stiff enough that you had to push hard to get the window up and down. Now they are worked in. I don't even use the windshield knobs to hold it upright. It's never been an issue...until now.

I can get the glass for $100. I put one in myself and it sucked. I'm going to let the pros do it this time. I'll probably try to hit JC Whitney for a strap and footman loop.
The frame was only a year old as well and now has 3 nice dents where it smacked the cage.

Yep, its a pain to do yourself. That's why I had it done yesterday. A year ago when I replaced the rusted out windshield frame I transferred the glass myself... and put a nice crack from top to bottom in front of the passenger.

If plexi didn't scratch so bad, I would just use that.

That's what Lexan's for. It's pretty much a plexi-glass that won't scratch or shatter. It's what most people use in there buggies and stuff anyways, if they want some sort of "windshield".

Haha, I hope no one actually buys that! Talk about getting ripped off!!! All that is is lexan....at a much spendier price than it normally sells for!

I didn't have a windshield for about a year and missed it. Running the dusty gravel roads at Tellico and the 4 mile drive to my favorite camping spot sucked with no windshield. Plus I had to zip tie an old bikini top on for shade. Not to mention that bugs were plastered to the headrests of my seats after a long trailer ride.

Haha I know how dusty the trails are at Tellico, I've been in the back of the pack with no windshield and yea it sucks, but as much potential as I have to roll over, the idea of broken glass in my face isn't a fun one.

When i was rebuilding my jeep i got my insurance to pay for a new windshield because it was "unsafe" to have a crack from te top all the way down. IT wouldnt hurt to call your insurance company about it.

It's his trail rig, I doubt he has full coverage on it.....
