XJ Heater hoses

here is an ebay listing for the lines. they are used on all the xj right hand drive models, the right hand drive wrangler, and it looks like the right hand drive grand cherokee, too.

i geuss i can verify sometime since i have a right hand drive wrangler
Thanks superj. Great find. Definitely look like the real thing. I would be a bit reluctant to buy second hand ones because it is impossible to guess what condition they might be in.

on that valve....

those are on the left hand drive jeep cherokees, grand cherokees, and wranglers. they get brittle with age and break when you try and move the hose around a bit to do anything on that side of the engine. i think that is why its hard to find the rhd hoses, since it doesn't seem to be used on the rhd jeeps. i was going to comment on that valve and possibly using the lhd hoses last night but i forgot while i was searching before bed.

reading through more forum posts, it seems everyone has gone to the silicon lines, or used pieced together lines clamped to bits of copper pipe
That's how I'm getting by at the moment, bits of copper and Jubilee clips.

the part numbers don't search well with how they posted in the part i quoted from the other site. they have changed to the new style, though still work.

4637938 (supply)
55036801 (return)

they do return as discontinued though, as you noted earlier. they are on this page from oemparts online

I have asked a friend who is in the UK to check out the local Jeep dealer with your numbers and see if anything is available. Seeing that we drive on the LEFT over there there may be a chance of some new old stock somewhere. BTW I am in Spain.
Did you know that it was Napolean who changed everything to drive on the right because he refused to drive on the same side of the road of those English?
Sweden was the last country in Europe to change to the right in 1967. A good pub quiz question.

ha ha ha about napolean. crazy what people do jsut because they don't like someone or something

i can tell you driving our right hand drive wrangler on the roads here takes some getting used. sometimes i am half in my lane and half in the lane next to me and drive throughs are a no-go. even the military bases aren't fans of it because the guard stands on the left side

I come from the UK and drove there for many, many years. Now I live in Spain which is on the other side. I had done holidays in Europe so the transition was not difficult. It was more difficult going back to the UK and using a hire car. Had to think very hard at roudabouts.
There are also problems of having to get out to go round the car to get car park tickets, road tolls etc.
The roundabout priority rules ie who gives way to whom, are completely different here and in the English eyes quite dangerous but you get used to it. Spanish drivers don't rate as some of the world's best.

I was told, correct me if I'm wrong, that the reason you drive on the right over there is because Henry Ford said that no one could change gears with their left hand. So he put the driver on the left.

I have nonidea why we drive on the side we do but that sounds as good as the napoleon reason.

That is a very interesting article and the discussion has been going on for a lot longer than I thought. There is a grain of truth in what I said about Henry Ford.
