How did, or why did you start wheeling?

To get to the rocks. It started mainly by taking rental cars to ungodly locations in Canada to do geology (its a really good thing they don't check the underside of rental cars when you return them!!), then suburbans and finally I bought my jeep to get to the places I want/need to go. I rarely...

    Bush's reply to Michael Moore

RE: Dangerous No, no, no. Most if not all of the people that post on this board are way too intelligent and have way to much common sense to be reporters. Really, I think its the common sense requirement that is lacking for reporters. There really needs to be a test for that. I teach at the...

    fuel efficient 2.5L YJ???

Hey TC, I posted on your other thread regarding your thoughts on commuters. I'm sure you've done the calculations but even if you get 24 mpg from the YJ (plus the cost of the mods) you're looking at ~ $71 per week where as a little s-box that gets say 34 mpg costs you ~ $49 per week. That's...

    Acetone???

LOL, yeah acetone and plastic do not mix, I've learned that lesson over the years. You'll be safe with a Nalgene bottle and you can usually pick up small ones (2-3oz) where you can get camping gear (REI, EMS).

    Which GPS?

Re: RE: Re: RE: HAS ANYONE NOTICED RUBICON REAR BRAKES DO NO The WAAS definitely does help out here in the west where there are tons of DGPS stations. I routinely get down to 3-4 m accuracy (~7-10 ft) when mapping in the Sierra Nevada.

    Which GPS?

wanted handheld police scanner I second TC's recommendation. I've been using GPS for >10 years and I swear by the Garmin units. The Legend is a nice one, have one myself and a Venture.

    I need a new commuter...

Need transmission advice Hey TC. We recently owned a 96 VW golf that was great on gas ~34 mpg. We got rid of it (traded it in) because the automatic transmission was failing and all VW/Audi with auto trans (at least the 94-02 models) have to be replaced (~ $4000) rather than repaired. So if...

    Katrina

Not true on the first point, I heard on CNN that other countries (no specifics) have pledged or are already giving support. And my mom told me that Red Cross Canada has sent people and supplies and that doctors are also going to the areas hit by Katrina (all the while 40,000 Canadians are in Red...

New shocks but...steering linkage - leaking lube

RE: Re: RE: how to reset the ecu? Thanks for the info bounty! I checked it out and the whole tie rod end is only $15 per side. But what exactly do you mean by slop? The tie rod itself and the ends are not bent at all if that is what you mean. Cheers.

New shocks but...steering linkage - leaking lube

Coil and Ballast Resistor Hi all, I successfully changed my shocks yesterday (a first for me), on my 91' YJ. Replaced them with some DoestchTech DT3000's and man what a difference that made with my ride. I've had this jeep for almost 3 yrs and these were the stock shock absorbers. So needless...

Got a chuckle, had to share with ya'll

Too funny, I reposted it on the Los Angeles Craigslist. LA is the "ricer" capital of the world. There are some pretty nice ones out there that I'm sure are darn fast even in proper race conditions but the majority are just wannabees (or however you want to spell that). Even more irritating, I...

    Oil Pressure Gauge/Sender?

RE: Gordon Shumway. The sender is on the passenger side of the engine block, in front of and just below the distributor. It is a little cannister, maybe 1/3 the size of a beer can and screws right into the block and has a single wire coming from the top. It's a real easy install. When you get a...

    Kumho Dealers

Did you check Kumho's website? http://www.kumhousa.com/ There is a dealer search link on there. That's how I found my local dealer. There may be one "close" to you.

This may be a stupid question .. But ..

RE: Kumho Dealers Yes, there should be 4-6 screws that hold the channel that the top slips into, to the windshield frame. With the top out of the channel you if you can wiggle that channel you will want to remedy the situation by tightening the screws (and be careful when tightening as to not...

This may be a stupid question .. But ..

RE: Meeting the Muds: A Short Story I have had my top pushed in by rain before but not by wind. I agree check the windshield channel if it is loose you could have issues. My case was driving through St. Louis during a really heavy rain storm, I don't know how it happened but the top got popped...
