1983 cj5 restoration

I totally love the overhead crane ! What a sweet set up that shop is ! Man , I can't even get a 2-point car hoist in my driveway. Engine crane and stand is about it. I second the select-trac , got the NP242 t-case in my '92 XJ and I will say HEAVY snowfall couldn't stop me from making it into work . Thank goodness it don't snow nearly as much as New York ! Good choice of t-case though .
 
Hey everyone. So today i reconditioned my shock absorbers. They were completely all rusty and had a bad looking decal on them. So i took the decal off, used 320 sand paper and prepped them. And then sprayed them with 4 coats of a nice high gloss white.

Hey everyone, so today I started removing the dash and organizing all the wires. I bought an ideal wire marker booklet at home depot and I really recommend it for anyone thats going to be doing wire work. It makes it really easy and helps you keep track of it all. Ill put a picture of it up. I also took the oringial 1/4" screws that hold in the dash and bought them in 6" long screws so that way i could keep the dash held in place but pull it forward 6 inches exposing all the wires so i can work on them as I go. I only have a few wires left and Monday i will have it completely out. I also got the steering column out. Next I need to remove the heater since i live in south florida and it doesn't get cold ever so I won't be needing a heater.

Hey everyone, so today I purchased a few things that I needed for the next steps. Luckily I live down the street from Morris 4x4 so I don't have to order online, I can just go and pick up from their warehouse. I got two motor mounts, a master bushing kit, brake bleeders, new rubber brake lines, and then new stainless steel brake lines, and new master rear brake kit. I also got new shock sleeves.

Just a suggestion, but if you are going to take your jeep off road I would return the 3 rubber brake lines you got and get the 3 longer steel braided brake lines, they will allow your suspension to flex more off road without being limited by the shorter rubber brake lines.
 

Might not be a bad idea to have that extra flex to the rubber lines , might just need that with the lift . Guess it's always good to be ready in case the jeep is taken off the pavement and suspension is topped out. I know this jeep will be an open beach cruiser as it's got BAYWATCH written all over it , but this build is yielding one very capable off roader and temptation is abound ! Won't be long before we get a photo opt of this CJ going airborne ! YEEEE HAAA ! Grab some air ! Gotta love those new stainless lines , love new parts !

Im not worried about it because theres less then a 1% chance ill take it off road. I live in a huge city, I only have roads and beaches. And I baby and maintain all my vehicles like crazy. So its just for street use.

I personally never trusted rubber lines on a lifted rig

Yes having Morris down the road is so nice and convenient. I can just go over there and see everything in person and talk to them and i don't have to wait for shipping, i can take it home with me. And I'm going to trust the rubber lines and if i have to switch them out then i will.
 
Hey everyone, so today i removed the windshield, I removed the heater, I removed the dash, i removed the wiring harness from within the body and on the engine side as well, I removed the brake lights, and all i have left to remove is the roll cage and Ill be ready to flip the body upside down and prepare the underside.

We are just lovin ' this build ! Got a little surface rust here and there , but nothing scary at all , she's solid ! This jeep is a dream ! I'm so glad someone tried to coat it to preserve the body , it worked fairly well . Maybe they did not prep it well enough as it's flaking off , but it helped save the jeep from rusting to dust. I know you'll have everything sparkling in fresh paint soon !
even the wiring harness don't look too bad ! This build is moving at light speed , we better not blink or we'll miss something ! The metal products you have will go a long way to dress any issues with the metal . It'll be fine . You the man mresky !
